When I'm writing and I hit a bit of a wall, or if I've procrastinated for so long that I'm having trouble getting started/continuing, I normally fall back on small writing projects to get me out of the slump and get the creative juices flowing.
I have a few things I do, but my usual go-to is the ABC poem, basically a 26 word poem, each word going in order from A to Z. Here's an example:
Alcatraz’s Base Cruelty,
Didn’t Eradicate Feelings.
Gallows Humour,
Inside Jokes,
Killer Lines;
Men Needed Outlets.
Prisoners Quickened Release.
Suicide; The Unholy Victory.
Widespread Xenophobia.
Yardbird Zombies.
I find it a fun, sometimes quick exercise, the constraints of which focus the mind and make me think in a different way.
Most of the time they just get filed away, unfit as they are for human consumption, sometimes they turn out okay. Whatever happens, they're always fun to do.
Occasionally, they just keep going:
Atheism Becoming Common,
Doesn’t Everybody Find God highly Irrelevant?
Just kinda, Ludicrous?
Miracles? –Nonsense.
Omnipresence? –Please.
Quit Religion.
Science.
Technology.
Unequivocal, Verifiable.
Wi-fi.
X-rays.
Your Zion Awaits.
Ban Churches.
Darwin. Evolution.
Feeling Good? Happy?
Incorporeal Jesus?
Kosher Living?
MACHINES! Not Oracular Predictions.
Quantifiable reasoning.
Secure, Trusted, Uncorruptable.
Virtual Windows.
XHTML.
Your Zion Awaits.
Bullies.
Cyber Devils.
E-Faith.
Google Heaven.
Insidious Junk.
Kindle Literature.
Moronic, Naïve.
Online Preachers.
Qwerty Rabble-Rousing.
Senseless Trolling.
Unfriending.

Welcome X-boxers, Your Zion awaits.
Does anyone have any opinions or suggestions for quick writing projects, or would you have a go at an ABC? I'd love to hear from you.
